Year in Review
As we end another successful year at Monte Verde, I just wanted to reflect on some of the highlights. A reason the Monte Verde Community is successful is due to the parental support at home and at school. Your support is greatly appreciated by all of the teachers and staff. There are many people who should be thanked for contributing to our success, but I know that if I start listing names, I will forget a major contributor. Instead, I would like to mention some of the ways parents have contributed to our school community. Thanks to the volunteers that helped with the library, classrooms, fifth grade events, Site Council, PTA, field trips, Serramonte It’s a Trip, Box Tops, Birthday Book Club, Pasta Night, Red Ribbon Week, Pumpkin Contest, yearbook, e-scrip, Crab Feed, Harvest Carnival, Math Night, Feast of Nations/ Founder’s Night, Blue and Gold gear, Book Fair and fundraising. Our parents are always willing to help. Many families are leaving with their fifth graders after a long period of contributing to our Monte Verde Community and we thank them for their support over the past six or more years.
Congratulations to all of our students for thriving this school year and we wish our Fifth Grade students all the best as they move to Middle School. I am confident that our fifth graders are prepared to meet the expectations of Middle School. I am happy to report that 56 students were awarded Perfect Attendance and they were here on time every day this year! We awarded Word Millionaire t-shirts to 49 students and medals to 20 students who read more than two million words. We believe that successful readers have an easier time with the other subjects, including math.
This year the Monte Verde teaching staff remained dedicated and concentrated on teaching to our high standards. We would like to congratulate Ms. Fellner on her retirement and thank her for her years of service to South San Francisco students. The teachers and students have worked very hard this year and we don’t want to reteach everything that has been taught this year. Please remind your children to do some kind of brain exercise during the summer. Practicing math facts, writing in a journal and reading everyday should help maintain skills. They should also get outside and play!
As this year comes to a close, we are preparing for the future. We look forward to the new modular buildings, play structures and path of travel work that will be completed over the next few months. During the summer, our school will not be open for playing on the yard or on the play structures. Our offices will not available, as in the past years, so we are asking you to spread the word. Kindergarten registration will be by appointment only. Parents may make an appointment by calling the school office at 877-8838.
Returning students should receive their class assignments after August 7th. We look forward to seeing you back at school on August 14, 2013. Have a safe summer!
